Checkerboard cake flavors?

Hi i want to make an anniversary cake for my parents. I just got a new checkerboard cake set i want to try out but i want to come up with something more unique than just chocolate and white cake to put together. I would like to try to keep it a basically chocolate cake but i want some richness to it. I dont want a bland cake. Something like maybe a khalua chocolate and then plain white, or maybe just plain white and pineapple, or even red velvet to give it a bright red. I just want it to be unique, and pleasing to the eye when you cut it since it will be my first checkerboard. i dont want any crazy things like i saw paula deans rootbeer float cake recipe... thats too weird i think. I also plan to ice it in a complimentary flavor and then pour a bit of ganache over the top. but these are my brainstorms, and everything is still flexible. any ideas?
