How do I design a hand printed tattoo?

I have an imprint of my grandfathers hand on dried piece of clay. I want this as a tattoo, and I even tried scanning it on the computer but its not as detailed as I want it to be. Does the tattoo artist draw it out? I've been thinking about doing this for a wile its not something that is just spur of the moment and some dumb pointless tattoo. It's going to mean a lot. There is nothing more than a hand print and a good quote that I want. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
