Is it right for us who live in a free country (UK) to force people off land which they own and?

We are an ordered society and we have laws about what land may be used for residential purposes and what land may not. If I bought a piece of open countryside and built a house on it, the local planning authority would insist I pulled it down. The same law applies to travellers.
