Michaels return policy - with receipt, w/o box?

I got an art set as a gift for Christmas. I opened it up, put everything in the bag it came with and threw the box into the fire we had in the fireplace. I realized today that the paints aren't good at all and some of the pastels were broken. I have the receipt, does anyone know if I can return it or exchange it even if I don't have the original packaging?
